Utilizing a Company Network to Manage Label Databases and Printing Requirements
The task:
A large food processing company needed a consistent, uniform method for creating and printing barcode identification labels at 15 processing plants across the country. The responsibility for creating and printing these labels in the past was in the hands of individuals at each facility. This resulted in inconsistent methods, a lack of coordination and a duplication of efforts.
This food processing company was referred to Direct Solutions for a label software solution. We recommended a network version of our Teklynx Label Matrix and helped the customer create a master label template that would populate text, image and barcode fields from a database. One of the key components to the solutions was our assistance with creating a single database from several existing databases and creating a single label template that could be used by multiple facilities.
The result:
Direct Solutions developed a label template that could be accessed, populated and printed by individual facilities, yet controlled and updated at a central location. The customer now had removed a large part of the responsibility from the local operators who could focus on other responsibilities. The investment in time and effort up front to develop a single database in conjunction with labeling software suited to their requirements has reduced the amount of effort required to perform this repetitive, critical daily task.
