When the Going Got Tough, Our Durable Decals Met the Challenge
The task:A manufacturer of construction equipment needed durable, custom decals to go on a new line of equipment. The decals needed to match various paint colors and be custom cut to fit gear panels and contours on the equipment. The decals also needed to be weatherproof and chemical resistant due to the harsh conditions and circumstances surrounding this type of equipment.
This manufacturer turned to Direct Solutions for a custom solution to its decal dilemma.
Our digital decal printing and cutting equipment allows us to print up to six colors on a continuous web of various, durable media as well as laminate and custom cut that media without the traditional expense of plates and dies associated with screen printing.
In discussing the decal requirements with the customer, it was evident that part of the solution would need to address the challenge of placing up to a dozen decals on one piece of equipment. The customer was concerned that some would be left off or misplaced in inventory.
Our recommendation was that the decals be printed and cut in the form of a kit. All decals for one machine would be provided on one sheet to ensure that they stayed together and that every decal was placed on the equipment as required.
The customer also needed us to print variable information on the kits. Each piece of equipment required a unique serial number. Printing variable information on custom decals is a unique capability of digital equipment and our printing equipment was up to the challenge. Since the beginning of this project that customer has had to make several changes to the decals due to the evolution of their equipment line and miscellaneous circumstances.
These changes would be very expensive with a traditional printing process that requires printing plates and cutting dies. Our digital decal printing and cutting equipment allowed the customer to make changes on demand with little or no additional expense. Our in-house art department helped us provide quick turnarounds.
